The Nativity of Christ is a world-historical event that divides history into two. God becomes man, taking on flesh and bones, to save humanity from sin and corruption.

A beautiful depiction of the Nativity of Jesus Christ. An excellent icon with strong Byzantine elements, showing the Theotokos with the newborn Jesus.

Joseph and the Theotokos set off for Bethlehem to register for the census. After a tiring journey, they reached their destination, but due to the large crowds, they could not find lodging, except for a humble cave. There, the Theotokos gave birth to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The celebration of Christmas was first established on December 25th, 397 AD, during the patriarchate of St. John Chrysostom.

The icon is created on naturally aged wood that comes from a renovated cell on Mount Athos. The monks gather the wood that is replaced, and after it is preserved using special techniques, it is transformed into unique works of art in their experienced hands.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is treated by hand, there may be small variations in the wood, though not in the depiction.
