Description

Athonite Rakomelo with the Traditional Recipe of Monk Meliton

Athonite Rakomelo is an alcoholic beverage made according to the authentic traditional Athonite recipe. It is prepared by combining raki (or tsikoudia) with honey and various spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and others. The process of fermentation of the sugars in the honey is used in its preparation.

Rakomelo, thanks to its two main ingredients, raki and honey, offers the beneficial effects of both for the human body.

How is Athonite Rakomelo Consumed?

Rakomelo is typically consumed warm. It is considered the best remedy for colds, as it relieves sore throats and coughs. It also acts as an expectorant, opening up the airways.

It can be consumed on its own or added to winter beverages. A shot of rakomelo in tea makes it tastier and more effective. However, rakomelo can also be served cold and consumed as an aperitif after a meal.

Tsikoudia: Strong but Beneficial

Tsikoudia is produced through a single distillation process from the pomace of pressed grapes, which are left in barrels for forty days to ferment.

Tsikoudia is particularly digestible, especially when consumed after a meal rich in fats. When heated, it provides immediate relief for a sore throat. In various forms of colds, it can have a soothing effect on the throat.

Tsikoudia is a strong drink. Its alcohol content varies between 42-58% (Vol %).

Honey: The Important Food

Honey has strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It protects the human body from gastrointestinal disorders and ulcers. It relieves sore throats and coughs.

Thanks to the vitamins, amino acids, minerals, enzymes, and trace elements it contains, honey is a valuable ally for maintaining good health and longevity.
