Description

Lithograph of the Nativity of Christ

A lithograph depicting a beautiful iconographic theme, the Nativity of Jesus Christ. This exquisite image features strong Byzantine elements, with the Virgin Mary holding the newborn Jesus. Joseph and the Virgin Mary had traveled to Bethlehem for the census. After a tiring journey, they reached their destination but, due to the large crowd, could not find accommodation, except for a humble cave. There, the Virgin Mary gave birth to the Lord Jesus Christ and placed Him in the manger. In the lithograph, angels are seen flying above the cave, and the three Magi are depicted with their gifts. The feast of Christmas was first established on December 25th, 397 AD during the patriarchate of Saint John Chrysostom.

Lithograph: Features

This beautiful image has been created using the lithography technique. The monk who created this work studied in the iconography workshops of the Monasteries of Mount Athos, where he learned both the technique of lithography and the process of handmade artificial aging, which is evident in this depiction of the Nativity of Christ. It is worth noting that the lithography technique in iconography is a form of printing technique.
