Description

Silk print with the Virgin Mary and the Synod of 12 Apostles on Natural Aging Wood

An exceptional screen print depicting the Virgin Mary Eptaspathis, crafted on wood from a cell renovation on Mount Athos.

The 12 Apostles were simple people and without any special qualifications, however thanks to the enlightenment they received from the Holy Spirit they spread Christianity laying the foundation of today’s Church.

Jesus Himself chose the successors of His work, who were: Peter, Andrew, James of Zebedee, James of Alphaeus, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, Thaddeus or Judas , Judas Iscariot and Simon the Zealot. However, after the betrayal of Judas Iscariot and his suicide, the twelve were completed by Matthias.

The church honors them on June 30.

The naturally aged wood used for this image comes from the Perivoli tis Panagia, specifically from a monk’s cell, which was renovated due to damage it had suffered over time. The wood was patiently worked by the hands of a monk, preserved and eventually formed the basis for this particular image.

The icon has a double value, not only because it represents the most beloved holy figure of Christianity, the Virgin Mary, but also because its wood comes from the Virgin’s Garden itself and carries with it the blessings and prayers of the holy fathers.

As the image is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the illustration.
