Description

Lithograph of Our Lady of the Lamentation

A unique image of Our Lady of the Lamentation, depicted without the infant Jesus. The original icon of Our Lady of the Lamentation has an incredible story and a series of miracles associated with it. As is known, it was painted in 1972 at Mount Athos by Elder Ioasaph and later sent to Nea Olynthos in Chalkidiki. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary healed a child in Nea Olynthos, and the child’s father promised and eventually built a church in the area.

However, he did not know which miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary to dedicate the church to, and time passed without him being able to make a decision. At one point, according to tradition, the Theotokos appeared to him in a dream and asked him to go to Mount Athos, find Elder Ioasaph, and request that he paint the icon of Our Lady of the Lamentation. This was done, and the icon was eventually sent with the blessings of the elder to Nea Olynthos in Chalkidiki. Our Lady of the Lamentation is celebrated on August 23rd.
