This is a beautiful image featuring the depiction of Christ Pantocrator, serving as an excellent example of the monks’ craftsmanship in wood processing.

The word “Pantocrator” itself means the Almighty or the ruler of all, the one who holds all power. The image of the Pantocrator Jesus is used to adorn the central dome (cupola) of Byzantine churches, while in churches without a dome, in the basilica style, the image is painted at the center of the ceiling.

This specific depiction of Christ is one of the traditional themes in Byzantine and post-Byzantine art.

For over 100 years, this wood was a part of a cell in Mount Athos that was renovated. The monks chose it along with other unique pieces, which silently convey the value of the wood that has aged naturally. These pieces were carefully preserved using methods that are not widely known to the public but are used in Mount Athos for the conservation of iconostases, chairs, and other wooden items.

The final shaping was done by adding a silkscreen iconography and artificially aging it to match the wood that hosts it. The grain, cracks, knots, and other characteristics of the wood have remained untouched.

The image of Christ Pantocrator is complemented with a halo made of cast iron, and the color scheme of the composition respects the age of the wood, faithfully representing the Byzantine tradition of Mount Athos.

Since the image is handcrafted and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
