This bracelet is made from the fruits of the “Tears of the Virgin Mary” plant, a plant that grows on Mount Athos. According to tradition, this plant grew under the cross of Christ from the Virgin Mary’s tears, which fell to the earth as she mourned the martyrdom and death of Her Son. However, there is another version of the story. In this version, a monk was sitting sorrowfully because he could not learn to weave a prayer rope. Then, the Virgin Mary appeared to him and asked why he was sad. He replied, “I cannot learn to weave a prayer rope.” The Virgin Mary then gave him the seeds of this plant and said, “Take my tears, cultivate them, and make prayer beads. And say: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Most Holy Theotokos, save us.”
