The Church triumphantly proclaims: “Lord, You have given us Your Cross as a weapon against the devil, for he quakes and trembles, unable to bear its power, as it raises the dead and abolishes death.” The symbol of the Holy Cross is the miraculous protector of the faithful. There is no sanctifying act in the Church where the faithful are not blessed with the sign of the Cross, no prayer moment where the sign of the Cross is not made, and no difficult time where the body is not sanctified with the Cross to shield against the forces of evil.
The Holy Cross replaced all the superstitious and ineffective charms of the past. The faithful now proudly carry it as a precious and effective “weapon” against evil and as a testament to their faith in Jesus Christ.
