Description

Vegetable wick from the Holy Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus where excellent monastic products are produced made with the blessing and care of the monks who live there.

Herbal luminium is a special monastic product, collected from the rich nature of Mount Olympus. It offers a different way of burning our lamp, more natural and healthy. More specifically, the calyxes from the flowers of the perennial shrubby plant called luminaki are placed in the lamp for wick.

The lighting of the lamp is an important process in a Christian’s life. It is placed in front of the holy icons and the iconostasis of the house and is lit every day, according to our Orthodox ecclesiastical tradition. The lighting of the lamp carries the symbolism that it is offered as a sacrifice of respect and honor to God and his Saints.

The vegetable wick “Luminaki” is ecological and does not produce smoke. It is ideal for the candle we light indoors, such as the iconostasis of our home.

Available exclusively from “Mount Athos Heritage”.

In the lamp where we will use Luminaki, the oil should be only olive oil and not seed oil or other derivatives thereof. We use pure olive oil to remember Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Olives in Gethsemane.

The lighting of the lamp with olive oil is a small sacrifice of ours, a sign and a token of gratitude and love that we owe to God for the great sacrifice he made for us with his death on the Cross. We thank Him for His Fatherly love, the health He gives us, for our salvation and that of the whole world, but above all for all the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

A sleepless candle must burn in the iconostasis of our home to remind us that our spiritual struggle must be sleepless. We light it in front of the icons in the Holy Churches, on the Altar, on the Crucifix behind the Holy Table, on the Holy Prosthesis inside the Holy Bema, but also on the graves of our beloved deceased relatives.
