Description

Horsetail is one of the oldest plants on Earth, existing for over 390 million years. Its botanical name, Equisetum, comes from the Latin words “equus” (horse) and “sacta” (hair), due to the plant’s stems being as tough as horsehair. Because of its high content of silicic acid, the stems were historically used to clean tinware. Another theory is that the branches resemble a horse’s tail, hence the name hippuris (from the Latin word for horse). Silicic acid gives the plant valuable therapeutic properties, as it is essential for the formation of bones, teeth, fingernails, toenails, and skin.

Properties: ● Strong diuretic. ● Treatment for inflamed and enlarged prostate and cystitis. ● Reduces bleeding and heals wounds (washes). ● For osteoporosis. ● For lung and kidney disorders. ● Against urinary tract inflammations. ● Helps with earaches (washes). ● For skin disorders, eczema, and acne (washes). ● Anti-rheumatic (bath). ● Tonic for tissues. ● Helps with painful menstruation. ● For arteriosclerosis. ● Particularly effective for hair loss problems (washes). ● Rich in minerals and calcium. ● For incontinence.

Uses: Boil 1 glass of water with 1 tablespoon of ground horsetail for 5 minutes. After a period of time, strain it and drink the infusion. For washes, prepare the above tea more concentrated, using 50-60g in 1 liter of water. For a bath, soak 100g of the herb in hot water for one hour, then add this water to the bathwater.
