Description

Citronella, or Citronella (Citronella), is a plant native to Southeast Asia with over 50 species. The variety known as Cymbopogon Nardus comes from Ceylon and is cultivated for its essential oil.
The essential oil of Citronella is obtained by distilling the herb and has a fresh, botanical, woody, lemony scent. It contains terpenic aldehydes: citronellal and alcohols: geraniol & citronellol, which are substances with significant tonic, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties.

We all know Citronella oil as the most common natural protection against mosquitoes. However, in addition to its important insect-repellent action, it also has excellent medicinal properties.

Specifically, it helps stimulate the nervous system and boost the body’s defenses, as it combats fatigue and effectively helps in the treatment of headaches, migraines, neuralgia, and depression.

Moreover, it has therapeutic effects on respiratory infections, such as colds and flu, and is ideal for the care of oily skin and hair.

It also relieves the pain of rheumatism and arthritis and is considered an excellent lice repellent.

Finally, it is used to disinfect kitchen counters and to protect clothes from moths.

Precautions:

Essential oils are natural, effective, and particularly pleasant to use. Their therapeutic properties can benefit anyone. However, they should be treated like medicines with caution and care, following the recommended dosage.

  • Essential oils should not be used for ingestion (except for oregano, thyme, basil, and mint essential oils) and without the advice of a doctor.
  • During pregnancy, especially during the first 5 months of gestation.
  • By individuals suffering from hypertension.
  • By individuals with severe nervous disorders.
  • On infants (children under one year old).

Essential oils should be used with caution in the following cases:

  • Some essential oils (e.g., Bergamot, Neroli, Lemon, etc.) may cause skin photosensitivity to ultraviolet rays from the sun. In general, we recommend avoiding exposure to intense sunlight for 4 hours after aromatherapy (massage).
  • Essential oils should be used diluted in a base (e.g., carrier oil) when applied to the skin. We recommend not using undiluted essential oils on the skin.
  • “Vulnerable” age groups (children and individuals over 60) should use essential oils in reduced proportions.
