Description

Extra Virgin Green Olive Oil from the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos

Green olive oil from the olive groves of the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos on Mount Athos is a genuine natural Mount Athos product. For its preparation, the monks collect by hand the olives from the centuries-old olive groves of the monastery and process them using only traditional methods. Mount Athos green olive oil is produced from the fruits of cherry olives. It also belongs to the category of extra virgin olive oil but differs from the rest that come from the ripe fruits of the olive. It has a bright green color and a more bitter, spicy and fruity taste. Keep in a cool dry place, away from the sun.

Beneficial Properties of Green Olive Oil

When the olive from which the oil comes is green, it has a higher content of polyphenols. Thus, green olive oil compared to mature extra virgin olive oil is richer in polyphenols, vitamins and minerals. Scientific studies prove that green olive oil has a higher content of two substances of particular interest, oleacein and oleocanthal. Oleacein is the strongest antioxidant while oleocanthal has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties.

These two substances, which are not present in any other food, combine antioxidant with anti-inflammatory action! Green olive oil has a beneficial effect on humans and is recommended in various cases. It helps lower cholesterol, helps liver function and is ideal for feeding those suffering from diabetes and heart disease.

Mediterranean Diet

Today, olive oil is the basis of the Mediterranean food pyramid, which has proven to be a model of proper and healthy nutrition and a factor of longevity. The European EUROLIVE study presented, in 2006, documented evidence for the protective role of phenolic components of olive oil. The experiments of this study were carried out on 200 healthy volunteers from all over Europe and demonstrated protection against oxidative stress. In particular, there was an increase in HDL (good cholesterol) levels, and reduced markers of lipid oxidative stress. In addition, the same study showed a 13% reduction in markers of DNA oxidation, comparable to the amounts seen after smoking cessation.
