Description
Serigraph with the Prayer on Naturally Aged Wood
This image features three of the most important holy figures of the Orthodox Church: Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint John the Baptist.
In Byzantine and Orthodox iconography, the term “Prayer” refers to the depiction of Christ surrounded by other saints, most commonly the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist.
In this image, created by a monk from Mount Athos, we see Christ at the center, with the Virgin Mary on His right and Saint John the Baptist on His left. Both figures appear to be interceding with Christ for the salvation of humanity, acting as mediators on behalf of the faithful who direct their prayers to them. This specific depiction is therefore also referred to as the “Prayer” icon.
The naturally aged wood used for this image, which represents the Prayer, is a piece from Mount Athos, soaked in the prayers of the monks.
As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, slight variations in the wood may occur, though the depiction remains consistent.
The icon is available upon request.
