Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Agia Glyceria was born in Traianoupolis in the 2nd AD. century, when Antoninus the Pious was emperor (138 – 161 AD). Her father’s name was Makarios and he had been a nobleman. At an early age, he embraced Christianity and developed an intense Christian and catechetical activity.

When the ruler Savvinos was informed of the event, he called her to appear before him. With great willingness, the Saint appeared to him, having marked the Holy Cross on her forehead and she did not hesitate to confess her faith in the Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ with boldness and strength. Enraged, he forcibly led her to the pagan temple to pray and sacrifice to the idol. There Glyceria, after fervently praying, smashed the statue of Zeus.
Enraged, the pagans dragged her out and stoned her furiously. But not a single stone touched the Saint, with the result that many believed in Christ. Then, after suffering various tortures, he was thrown into prison, where he catechized and brought to the Christian faith the jailer of Laodice, who then courageously confessed his faith and martyred for Christ.
Unconvinced, the tyrant ordered that Glyceria be tortured again and then thrown to the wild beasts. But they also respected her, although one of them bit her, with the result that in a few days the Saint surrendered her spirit to the Lord.

Her holy relic was received by the Bishop of Heraklia, Domitius, and placed in a dignified place near the city. Many miracles, healings and healings of demon-possessed people are witnessed, which the Saint performed on those who with faith fled to worship her holy relic.
