Wooden Pyrography with Magnet – Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou
The Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Esphigmenou is one of the twenty monasteries of Mount Athos, ranking eighteenth in the monastic hierarchy. It celebrates on the day of the Ascension, forty days after Easter.
The legal or new brotherhood, founded in 2005, temporarily resides in Karyes. The main monastery premises are illegally occupied by the Old Calendarists (also called zealots) of the old brotherhood, who have been officially declared schismatic since 2002.
