The Annunciation is essentially the joyful news that the Virgin Mary received from the Archangel Gabriel that she will bring Jesus Christ into the world in a miraculous way. According to Luke the Evangelist, the event of the Annunciation took place in Nazareth. In the sixth month after the arrest of the Baptist, the Archangel Gabriel, sent by God, meets Mary at the place where she was staying and greets her: “Rejoice, graceful the Lord with you.”

It is one of the most important celebrations of Orthodoxy as it marks the beginning of salvation for man. Through the Annunciation, God’s plan to save the world through the incarnation of His Son is revealed to angels and humans. The Virgin Mary, as soon as the Archangel announces that she will give birth, is bewildered and asks him how this will be done since she does not have a husband. The Archangel Gabriel reassures her that he will take care of everything by the Holy Spirit.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal gold sheet is placed on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
