Saint Paisios the Athonite (born Arsenios Eznepidis) became widely known for his virtuous life and spiritual work. After his repose, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew initiated the canonization process, and he was officially declared a saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. The Greek Orthodox Church commemorates him on July 12.

He spent the last years of his life at the cell of Panagouda, which he had found abandoned. There, he labored tirelessly, welcoming crowds of visitors and offering spiritual guidance through his prayers and teachings. At the same time, he maintained a strict ascetic lifestyle, often sleeping very little. Nevertheless, he continued to receive visitors and tried to help them. He was also known for creating small printed icons as handicrafts, which he gave as blessings to those who visited him.
