Saint Paisios – A Brief History
Arsenios Eznepidis, his secular name, was born in Pharasa, Cappadocia. On August 7, 1924, a week before departing for Greece as part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, he was baptized by the parish priest Arsenios, who was later recognized as a saint by the Orthodox Church in 1988.

Saint Paisios was officially canonized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. His feast day is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on July 12. In 2017, he was declared the patron saint of the Signal Corps of the Greek military, following a decision by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

In his final years, Saint Paisios resided in the Panagouda cell of Mount Athos, where he received countless visitors seeking his spiritual guidance and blessing. He led an intensely ascetic life, resting only 2 to 3 hours per day. After his passing, he was buried at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, Thessaloniki. Since then, a vigil is held at the monastery on the night of July 11-12, attended by thousands of believers.

Pyrography: Characteristics
Pyrography is an art form that attracts many creators due to the impressive results that can be achieved. It is a painting technique that combines two of nature’s primal elements: wood and fire. With patience and meticulous attention to detail, monks craft pyrographic icons, where mistakes are irreversible—unlike pencil drawings.

This particular icon merges engraving techniques with pyrography, creating a stunning relief effect.
