Description

Handmade Hagiography On naturally aged wood from the hands of a saintly monk hagiographer.
An exceptional iconography depicting St. Peter, crafted entirely by hand.

This particular iconography has been crafted based on Byzantine iconography standards. The depiction of the Saint has been painted entirely by hand. Coating the hagiography with pure beeswax ensures that the colors of the image remain unchanged over time.

An amazing iconography with Saint Peter, who was born in Bethsaida, near Lake Gennesaret, where he and his brother Andrew practiced the profession of fisherman, along with two other Apostles, James and John, sons of Zebedee.
He lived in Capernaum where his wife came from, about whom nothing is known. We know that Peter was married because Christ healed his mother-in-law. It is very possible that the wife was not alive when Christ called him to the apostolic office. In fact, on his missionary tours, Peter also had with him not his wife but a Christian sister to serve him.

His call to the apostolic office came gradually. Peter was first introduced to Christ by his brother Andrew. He was apparently present at the wedding at Cana and immediately after that wedding he settled with Jesus and other disciples in Capernaum.
Leaving Rome, he saw Christ moving in the opposite direction holding a cross. Peter asked him “Where are you going Lord?/Quo vadis, Domine?” and He answered him “I am going to Rome to be crucified again / Romam vado iterum crucifigi”. Then Peter understood that he had to endure the torture and returning to Rome he surrendered.

Indeed, he asked to be crucified upside down, because he considered himself unworthy to endure a martyrdom similar to that of Christ. He was martyred on June 29, 64 or 67, in the Hippodrome of Nero.
