Description
A beautiful serigraph on naturally aged wood, depicting the Holy Virgin of Sorrows. In the features of her face, one can see bitterness, sorrow, and grief—the negative emotions she experienced from the martyrdom and Crucifixion of her only son. All the sadness of an event that was preordained to save humanity, and one which she could only witness.
In the face of the Virgin is etched the unspeakable grief of a mother who has lost her only child, and even more so, the grief of a mother who saw her innocent child being tortured. This is why the Virgin Mary is one of the most beloved figures in Orthodoxy, not only because of her holy life but also because she was a Mother. A mother to her only son, and a mother to the entire world that turns to her.
As the image is handmade and the wood treatment is done by hand, there may be small variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
The image is available upon order.
