Panagia Skepi – Lithograph – Mount Athos

Description

The Holy Skepi of the Most Holy Theotokos celebrates on October 1st. The Orthodox Church has postponed it to October 28, the day on which Greece celebrates its liberation from the Italian-German yoke.

The service sung on this day was written by Mount Athos monk Gerasimos Mikragiannitis and was approved by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on October 21, 1952. Then it was decided to celebrate the feast of Agia Skepi and the National Day of “OXI”.

In this color lithograph, a multitude of Saints and Archangels frame the Virgin Mary in the center of the composition, full-length, frontal, with palms raised in supplication and on cloud.  

The creator of the hagiography of Agia Skepi, Nektarios Nastos, faithfully following the technique of artificial aging as he was taught it on Mount Athos, created the handmade details in this color lithograph.
