Panagia Kecharitomeni received this title from the Archangel Gabriel himself during the Annunciation. *“Rejoice, Kecharitomeni, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women,”* the Archangel said to Mary when he visited to deliver the salvific news that she would bring the Messiah into the world.

Kecharitomeni means *“full of God’s Grace”* and *“endowed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.”* The Virgin Mary is *Kecharitomeni* because she possessed the fullness of God’s Grace.

In the icon of Panagia Kecharitomeni, the Theotokos is depicted lovingly holding her Son in her arms. Their faces touch one another, while the young Jesus places one hand on His mother’s face, just as all children do when seeking warmth and safety in their mother’s embrace.

Lithograph – Features

The art of lithography is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is widely used by monks to create exceptional works of art. In this case, the monk-iconographer utilized a lithographic replica of Byzantine art and crafted this piece using the traditional method of manual aging. The result is a remarkable artwork with unique aesthetic value. The wood has been treated with appropriate materials to ensure the durability of the colors over time.
