Wonderful icon with Panagia Glykofilousa, who is depicted lovingly holding the little Christ in her arms. According to tradition, the original icon of Panagia Glykofilousa survived during the iconoclasm thanks to a woman. This is Victoria, wife of a senator, who had the icon in her house and worshipped it secretly despite the ban. During an investigation by iconoclasts, Victoria took the icon and went down to sea, so as not to find and destroy it. There he worshipped her for the last time and threw her into the sea, hoping that thanks to a miracle she would be saved. Indeed, the icon did not sink and began to sail on the waters until it reached Mount Athos.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of Panagia Glykofilousa, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal foil is glued on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
