The Sweetness of Angels is a hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos, to whom the entire Athonite community is dedicated. “The Sweetness of the angels, the joy of the sorrowful,” is a characteristic line from one of the hymns of the Feast of the Assumption. The Sweetness of Angels is the Virgin Mary, who brings joy and fulfillment because she brought Jesus Christ into the world. In this image, the Virgin Mary embraces Christ, while above them, two angelic figures can be seen. The representation of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the favorite themes of the monks of Mount Athos, who express their boundless faith and love in this way.
