Virgin Mary Healer – Silkscreen on Naturally Aged Wood – Mount Athos

70,00

The Virgin of Healing is depicted on a piece of wood, which is several decades old and once formed part of a cell in Mount Athos. During renovation work, the monks preserve and maintain the wood from their cells, transforming it into authentic Athonite works of art. One such piece of art is this icon, whose history runs parallel to that of Mount Athos.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

Description

Silkscreen Image on Naturally Aged Wood of the Healer Virgin Mary

The Virgin Mary, known as “The Healer” (Γιάτρισσα), is one of the many titles of the Mother of God. She is the one who heals both the body and the soul of the faithful who turn to Her, offering relief from pain, strength, and courage to those in need.

The history of the Healer Virgin Mary’s image is said to date back to 1920. A woman, returning from Jerusalem, brought back an icon of the Virgin and gave it to a friend in Loutraki. After witnessing the miracles attributed to the icon, the locals built the first church dedicated to the Healer Virgin Mary. There is also a historical monastery dedicated to her on Mount Taygetus.

This specific image of the Virgin Mary started its journey long before the iconographer monk completed the representation on canvas. The naturally aged wood used to create the image is decades old and comes from a cell of Mount Athos, recently renovated.

The wood, which for many years served the monks in the blessed environment of the Athonite monastic state, is transformed into an exquisite work of art, bringing with it the blessings of the Athonite fathers who lived in the cells from which the wood originates.

Since the image is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The image is available upon request.
