Description
Antiqued Lithograph with the Virgin of the Right Hand
An exact copy of the original image, crafted on natural spruce wood.
According to tradition, the specific title was given to the Virgin because she is depicted holding Jesus in her right hand, while the most common iconography shows her holding the Divine Infant in her left hand.
However, there is also another version, according to which the Virgin is and has always been the intercessor of humanity to God. She is the one who receives the supplications, prayers, and pleas of all those who turn to Her for help. The Virgin of the Right Hand is the Holy Mother, the intercessor, and the savior, always by the side of every person, waiting to hear their prayers and intercede for their fulfillment.
Lithograph – Characteristics
The technique of lithography is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is also used by several monks to create exceptional works of art. In this particular case, the iconographer monk used a lithographed copy of Byzantine art and created this work by following the traditional method of hand aging. This resulted in a beautiful piece with unique aesthetic value. The wood has been treated with the appropriate materials to ensure the durability of the colors over time.
