Description
Antiqued Serigraph of the Virgin Mary, Right-Handed
An exact replica of the original icon, crafted on natural spruce wood.
According to tradition, this particular title was given to the Theotokos because she is depicted holding Jesus in her right hand, whereas the more common depiction shows her holding the Divine Infant in her left hand.
There is, however, another version according to which the Virgin Mary is the mediator between humanity and God. She is the one who accepts the supplications, prayers, and petitions of all people who turn to her for help. The Virgin Mary, Right-Handed, is the Mother of God, the intercessor, and the savior, always present by the side of each person, awaiting to hear their prayers and to intercede for their fulfillment.
Serigraph – Characteristics
Serigraphy is a particularly widespread technique in iconography, and it is taught and used in many iconography workshops, including those on Mount Athos. In fact, in the icons created with this technique, the monks use traditional methods, meaning that the iconographer handcrafts a significant part of the icon with minimal technological involvement. The technique of aging icons is also done by hand, adding collectible value to these works. They are precise copies of Byzantine art, with a strong allure of the antique. The icon is painted with high-quality materials on natural wood, and the painted surface is covered with pure beeswax, ensuring that the colors remain unchanged over time.
