The icon of Christ the Life-Giver is placed on naturally aged wood. Christ is depicted as stern and just, while the background of the image adds even greater Byzantine grandeur.

Christ the Life-Giver is the source of life, the leader of life and death. Throughout the history of the world, the only victor over decay and death is Christ. Through His crucifixion, He definitively defeated death and sin.

The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the Church. The incarnation of God marks the entrance of the eternal and incorruptible into history. In a world disintegrating in decay and corruption, eternity, personified in Christ, enters as the possibility of overcoming death. The Resurrection of Christ represents the ultimate victory over death, not only as a continuation of biological life but as immortality.

The monks of Mount Athos, using many techniques that are not so popular today, conserve old pieces of wood from everyday objects or furniture and transform them into works of art that bear the seal of time. The silk screen print of Christ has undergone artificial aging to match the style of the aged wood. On the back, it bears the inscription “Agion Oros,” signifying its origin. The whole piece conveys the story and style of life on Mount Athos.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
