An exquisite icon of Archangel Michael of Mantamados.

The amazing story of the original icon begins when pirates arrived on the island of Lesbos and attacked a monastery located a few kilometers away from the fortified town of Stenakas. The pirates slaughtered the monks, and only one novice monk survived, who climbed to the roof and remained there. Unfortunately, the pirates eventually found him, but as they tried to capture him, the roof turned into a stormy sea, and beside the young monk appeared the towering figure of a soldier with a sword, whom he recognized as Archangel Michael. After this miracle, the young novice painted the image of the Archangel, using the blood of the slaughtered monks along with other materials.
