Prayer Rope: Use

The komboskini typically consists of 33 or 100 knots, but it can also come in larger versions with 200 or 300 knots.

It is an essential prayer aid for monks, clergy, and laypeople alike. Each time a prayer (usually a short one) is said, one knot is counted. This helps to track the number of repetitions or the passage of time during prayer.

According to Christian tradition, the prayer rope originates with Saint Pachomius in 320 A.D. He sought a method to help monks maintain focus during prayer. Then, in a dream, he was visited by Archangel Gabriel, who showed him how to make this tool to support prayer. Thus, the komboskini was created as a gift from God to humanity.
