Description
Athos Prayer Rope, with 50 Knots
The prayer rope is not exclusive to monks. According to the command of the Apostle Paul, “pray without ceasing,” anyone can carry a prayer rope in their pocket or another discreet place, enabling them to pray unnoticed at any time of the day, without drawing attention from others.
On Mount Athos, the Orthodox monastic tradition sees prayer as an essential daily practice and communication with God. Whether in solitude or during the sacred services at the Catholicon of the Holy Monastery, the monks engage in prayer fervently, with remarkable results.
The making of the prayer rope is a service performed by the monks on Mount Athos, who, through a variety of monastic products they produce, offer the faithful an opportunity to experience monastic life as a source of spiritual nourishment for Orthodox Christians around the world.
