Description

Glazed ceramic censer in white with purple details. The censer is used in the church, at home, or at the graves of our loved ones.

Incense is essentially aromatic resin or gum derived from the trunk of the frankincense tree, which is why it is also called frankincense.

The incense burned in the censer symbolizes our prayer rising to the throne of God, just as the smoke ascends upwards.

What Does It Symbolize?

The censer, where the charcoal burns and the incense is placed, symbolizes the womb of the Theotokos (Mother of God), which physically received the Divinity, described as a “consuming fire,” without experiencing corruption or alteration. According to Saint Germanus, Patriarch of Constantinople, “The censer signifies Christ’s humanity, the fire His divinity, and the fragrant smoke heralds the sweet fragrance of the Holy Spirit going forth.”

In simpler terms, Saint Kosmas of Aetolia explains this symbolism by saying, “The censer signifies the Lady, the Theotokos. Just as the coals burn inside the censer without consuming it, so too the Lady Theotokos received Christ and was not consumed, but rather illuminated.”

Usage Instructions:

Place 1-2 charcoals in the ceramic censer after lighting them. Once the flame subsides and the charcoals begin to smoke, place 4-5 pieces of incense with your preferred fragrance and let the aroma fill the space.
