Description

Glazed clay incense burner in brown with black details. The incense burner is used in the Holy Church, at home, or at the graves of our loved ones.

Incense is essentially aromatic resin or gum that comes from the trunk of the frankincense tree, which is why it is also called “frankincense.”

The incense burned in the burner symbolizes our prayers rising to the throne of God, just as the smoke rises upwards.

What does it symbolize?

The incense burner, where the charcoal is placed and the incense is burned, symbolizes the womb of the Theotokos, who physically received the Divinity in her body, which is “consuming fire,” without suffering corruption or alteration. According to Saint Germanos, Patriarch of Constantinople, “The incense burner signifies the humanity of Christ, the fire His Divinity, and the fragrant smoke indicates the fragrance of the Holy Spirit proceeding forth.”

In simpler terms, Saint Kosmas of Aetolia describes this symbolism, saying: “The incense burner represents the Lady, the Theotokos. Just as the charcoal is placed in the burner and does not burn, so too the Lady Theotokos received Christ and was not consumed, but rather, she was illuminated.”

Instructions for use:

Place 1-2 charcoal pieces in the ceramic incense burner, after lighting them. Once the flame settles and the charcoal starts smoking, place 4-5 pieces of incense with the fragrance of your choice and allow them to release their fragrance.
