Description

A glazed clay censer in white with gray details. The censer is used in the Sacred Church, at home, or at the graves of our loved ones.

Incense is essentially an aromatic resin or gum that comes from the trunk of the frankincense tree, which is why it is also called frankincense.

The incense that burns in the censer symbolizes our prayer rising to the throne of God, just as the smoke rises upwards.

What does it symbolize?

The censer, where the charcoal burns and the incense is placed, symbolizes the womb of the Theotokos, who physically received the Divinity within her, which is “a consuming fire,” without experiencing harm or alteration. According to St. Germanus, Patriarch of Constantinople: “The censer indicates the humanity of Christ, the fire indicates the Divinity, and the fragrant smoke signifies the fragrance of the Holy Spirit leading the way.”

In simple terms, St. Kosmas of Aetolia describes this symbolism, saying: “The censer represents the Lady, the Theotokos. Just as the charcoal is inside the censer and does not burn, so the Lady, the Theotokos, received Christ and was not burned, but rather was enlightened.”

Usage instructions:

Place 1-2 charcoal pieces in the ceramic censer after lighting them. Once the flame settles and they begin to smoke, place 4-5 pieces of incense with your chosen fragrance and let them release their aroma.
