These objects of worship derive their power from the holy relics they enclose, but also from their iconographic themes.

The term “gulf” has a more general meaning. It refers both to “flat crosses” or “reliquary crosses”, as well as to any circular, rectangular or polygonal icon. Grooves present a variety of materials, types and construction techniques and therefore their approach is multifaceted, with the general term “grooves” fully connecting them.
