Description

Book of Psalms – Holy Psalter with 150 psalms!

The Book of Psalms (or Psalter) is one of the books of the Old Testament. The Psalter includes 150 psalms. Their themes are man’s salvation, repentance, turning away from evil and the desire for good, and praising God.

The Psalms are poetic texts written in the Hebrew language over many years (11th-5th centuries BC). Most of the Psalms were written by King David. Their translation into Greek began under Ptolemy of Philadelphus (250 BC) by about seventy Greek-speaking Jews for the use of their Greek-speaking compatriots in Egypt. It was completed around 180 B.C. It is the so-called translation of the O’ (Septuagint).

David and the Psalter

David, whose name means beloved, blessed, was Jesse’s son in Bethlehem. He received the anointing of king from Samuel, although he was sidelined to shepherd his sheep. He was king of all the tribes of Israel for forty years.

He was a poet and musician and organized liturgical music. His life was full of dangers and human passions. An inspired poet, he expresses in the psalms the pain of his soul but also the comfort and help he received from God when he confessed his weakness and relied on God for his hope. He had the grace and blessing of being the ancestor of Christ.

The Book of Psalms contains examples of righteous as well as sinners who by their repentance received God’s grace, such as David. It’s right treasury. Each verse reveals wisdom and leads to virtue.

The Psalms offer peace to the soul. The Book of Psalms or Psalter refreshes sin-afflicted souls who, through its pages, realize passions and sins, repent and glorify God.
