The Senna Tincture (Senna angustifolia) is an excellent and effective herbal aid for addressing the issue of constipation. It is recommended for conditions such as constipation or the lazy bowel syndrome. Senna acts as a regulator of intestinal transit. The senosides of the plant have a laxative effect. The anthraquinones cause a mild irritation of the intestinal mucosa, thereby increasing peristalsis. The metabolism occurring in the large intestine increases the secretion of electrolytes and water while preventing the reabsorption of fluids by the intestine. This increased content in the intestine stimulates an increase in intestinal peristalsis, resulting in bowel movement.

The use of Senna is contraindicated during pregnancy, in cases of Crohn’s disease, and in ulcerative colitis. The stools may become yellow-orange in color, and the urine may turn orange due to the presence of anthraquinones.
