The tincture of Burdock (Arctium Lappa), also known as Lappa, Platomandilas, or Burdock, is distinguished by its large, dark green leaves (which can reach up to 70 cm in length). The spiny upper parts of the plant “trap” the fuzz, and it is said that they inspired the creation of Velcro. The useful parts of the plant are the root, leaves, and seeds.

The name comes from the Greek word “άρκτος” (bear) and was considered quite effective as a general tonic from ancient times to the medieval period on a global scale. Notable are the references by Culpepper (1653), who writes that, in combination with the seeds of pine cones, it helps those who cough up impurities, pus, and blood. He also claimed that the leaves, mashed with egg white and applied to burnt areas, alleviate the heat, immediately soothe the pain, and assist in healing.

The leaves of Burdock are currently used primarily to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, and eczema. The leaves are used externally as a poultice. Their strong antimicrobial action (due to the polyacetylene compounds they contain) as well as their antioxidant properties effectively help in treating even severe cases of skin diseases.

The leaves of Burdock contain arctiin, fukinone, and taraxasterol. In the case of the tincture, the leaves of the plant are believed to stimulate the digestive system by promoting bile secretion.

The tincture is created by steeping herbs in an alcoholic solution (grapa), usually over a period of a few weeks. During this, the active ingredients of the herbs dissolve in the alcoholic solution. This specific process results in the tincture retaining all the beneficial properties of the herbs to the fullest.

Δοσολογία:

15-20 drops in water twice a day for a month. Take a break for ten days and repeat. Shake before use.
