St. John’s Wort Oil – H.M. Xenofontos – Mount Athos

Traditional St. John’s wort oil (balsam) from the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos on Mount Athos, traditionally used as a sedative of nerve pain, sciatica and generally inflammation of muscles or joints. It is also an excellent healer for minor burns (external) and stomach ulcers (internal intake).

St. John’s wort oil or balsam has been known since antiquity for its beneficial properties. The Fathers of Medical Science, Hippocrates and Dioscorides prepared and used it for the recovery of their patients. The ancient Spartans used it to heal their wounds after battles, but also stomach ulcers and depression.

St. John’s Wort Oil helps significantly in the treatment of sciatica, rheumatic and joint pains and has excellent healing properties. It consists mainly of sedge which blooms every May for a month.
