Description

Mountain Tea for Fighting Colds

Mountain Tea is known in Crete as “malotira,” and it has various local names such as Vlach tea, Mount Olympus tea, Velouchi tea, or Parnassus tea. In fact, Mountain Tea is one of the most well-known herbs in the Greek countryside, consumed for centuries. According to Dioscorides, Mountain Tea has been known since ancient times by the name “Sideritis,” as it was believed to be effective against wounds caused by iron objects during battles. It is also an ideal beverage for relieving cold symptoms.

Properties of Mountain Tea

Mountain Tea is especially beneficial for colds and upper respiratory inflammations. It strengthens the immune system, has analgesic and antioxidant properties, and contains flavonoids that contribute to better heart function. One of its most important benefits is that it contains iron, which helps in cases of anemia.

Mountain Tea is recommended for indigestion and gastrointestinal disorders, is antispasmodic, healing, and has a relaxing and anxiolytic effect. It is diuretic and helps in cases of kidney stones. Additionally, it is a strong astringent and is used against diarrhea, colitis, and digestive colic. Moreover, scientific studies suggest that it may act preventively against cataracts and hypertension.

Enhancing Perception and Memory

Researchers from the University of Magdeburg in Germany proved that taking it daily for six months led to a reversal of Alzheimer’s neurodegenerative disease to levels it was at nine months earlier.

Preparation Method

Boil one to two teaspoons of mountain tea with one cup of water for two to three minutes and drink it after straining.
