Description

Marjoram is a plant related to oregano, with many branches and small fragrant leaves. It is an herb that helps with various health issues and contains vitamins C, A, K, B, B6, carotene, and more. It also contains thymol, volatile oils, astringent and bitter compounds, and 40% dietary fiber. It is one of the strongest sources of antioxidants.

Properties:

Its properties show several similarities to those of mint and thyme.

Helps the digestive system: It acts as a spasmolytic, antiemetic, relieves bloating and indigestion, and stimulates the liver and spleen.

Digestive action: It helps greatly with stomach discomfort and acts as a digestive/soothing remedy for stomach pain.

Calming action: It is well known for the relief it provides from persistent and severe headaches or toothaches. It is also used as a painkiller for rheumatism. In alternative medicine, it is considered beneficial for nervous system disorders, such as hypersensitivity, neurasthenia, psychasthenia, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, dizziness, and memory loss.

Expectorant action: It helps with respiratory system conditions and is considered beneficial for nervous cough, colds, tonsillitis, bronchitis, and asthma. It also has a perspiration-inducing effect.

In what ways can we incorporate it into our diet?

  2. As essential oil (with a little honey)
  3. The leaves and white flowers for flavoring in cooking or pastry.
  4. The seeds in meat sauces.
