Description

The scientific name of the herb is Foeniculum vulgare (Common Fennel), and in our country, it is also known by the names Malathro, Marathro, Finikio, Finokio, and Maraza.

Fennel contains up to 6% essential oil (such as estragole, anethole, and fenchone), fatty acids, flavonoids, vitamins, and minerals. The taste of the essential oil depends on the proportions of its two main components: fenchone, which has a bitter taste, and anethole, which has the scent of sweet fennel. The proportions of these two components depend on the species and the region where they are cultivated.
