Description

Artemisia is a perennial plant found throughout Europe, Asia, North Africa, and North America. In Greece, we encounter seven different species of Wormwood, mainly in the mountainous forests of Macedonia, Epirus, and Thessaly, as well as in Crete.

Artemisia has been used as an herb by many cultures since ancient times. For example, Roman soldiers used to place Artemisia leaves in their sandals to prevent fungal infections and to relieve sore feet during long marches.

In modern herbal medicine, Artemisia is used to regulate menstruation and as a tonic for the digestive system. It is also believed to aid in the digestion of fatty substances, which is why it is considered one of the “herbs for weight loss.” Additionally, it is thought to increase bile production and address indigestion, heartburn, and bloating.

Properties:
● Acts against depression.
● Helps with diabetes.
● Regulates menstruation and relieves pain.
● Tones the body.
● Powerful diaphoretic, helping with weight loss.
● Antipyretic.
● Insect repellent.
● Helps with rheumatic pain.

Usage:

Consumption of Artemisia should be done with great caution. Prolonged use may cause dizziness and headaches. The usual recommended dosage is 10g per day, divided into 3 doses. To prepare the decoction, boil 10g of Wormwood in 1 liter of water for about 15 minutes. The decoction is enough for 3 cups, which can be consumed in the morning, afternoon, and evening, between meals. Since Artemisia is particularly bitter, it is advisable to add honey to the drink.
