Angelica archangelica is a perennial herb, particularly widespread in Greece, where it can be found both cultivated and wild, preferring moist and shaded soils. It is an aromatic and ornamental shrub with many therapeutic properties and cosmetic uses.

The part of the plant most commonly used for therapeutic purposes is the root, due to its high content of coumarins and essential oil, although the use of the seeds, which have a lower content, is not dismissed.

Properties of Angelica

The root and seeds of the plant act as an antispasmodic, aromatic, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic, and tonic. Generally, it combats all phenomena of digestive system weakness and nervous headaches. It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is used as a cardiotonic and is beneficial for the eyes. The decoction of the plant is used to treat bronchial asthma, catarrh, cough, and indigestion.

Preparation Method

Add one to two teaspoons of the herb to a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for about ten minutes and then strain it.
