Description: The essential oil is derived from steam distillation of the roots of the plant Zingiber officinale (commonly known as ginger), specifically the root of the plant Zingiber officinale (medicinal ginger), which is used in medicine and as a spice in cooking.

Ginger is a perennial medicinal plant with a knobby rhizome that has a characteristic brown skin on the outside, while the inside is light yellow and emits a distinctive spicy, lemony fragrance.
