Description

Collectible Wooden Carved Icon of Archangel Michael

The Archangel Michael is depicted full-body on a cloud. In one hand, he holds a sword, and in the other, the Cross. The icon is adorned with a metallic halo and stands out due to its handcrafted details.

The Archangel Michael plays a pivotal role in both the Old and New Testaments.

He was the one who saved the angelic forces from falling with the Let us attend! Let us stand well, let us stand with fear. For this boldness, the Triune God gave him the position of “Prince of the Angelic Hosts,” Archistrategos, and Commander. He proclaimed, together with all the angels, the Trisagion Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord of Sabaoth Heaven and earth are full of His glory.” Additionally, it is believed that by God’s command, the First Parents were expelled from Paradise by the Archangel Michael.

He was the one who announced to Abraham the need for the sacrifice of his son, Isaac, and who later prevented it. He was the one who appeared to Lot and rescued him and his family from the destruction of Sodom, and to Jacob when he saved him from his brother Esau, who wanted to kill him. Moreover, the Archistrategos Michael was the one who led the people of Israel in their escape from Egypt, appearing as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, guiding them to the Promised Land.

In the New Testament, he is the one who will announce the second coming of Jesus Christ. He is prophetically seen leading an army of angels in a heavenly battle against “the great Dragon, the ancient serpent, Satan” and his demons.

The Feast of the Synaxis of Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and all the angelic hosts, is celebrated on November 8th.
