An exceptional wood carved icon depicting Saint John the Baptist, also known as the Forerunner, who prepared the world to receive the Messiah, Jesus. Both his appearance and his ascetic lifestyle, alongside his sermons and acts of baptism for repentance, attracted many listeners, including soldiers, Sadducees, and Pharisees, whom he baptized in the Jordan River. It was there that Jesus Christ came to him and requested to be baptized. Initially, Saint John hesitated, saying he was not worthy to baptize the Messiah and that it should be Jesus who baptizes him. However, Jesus insisted, and thus Saint John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ in the waters of the Jordan River.
