Wood-Carved Icon with Saint George

A wonderful wood-carved icon depicting Saint George, the great martyr and Trophy-bearer, who was born around 275 AD in Cappadocia to Christian parents. His father died as a martyr for Christ when George was only ten years old. At the age of 18, he joined the Roman army and quickly rose through the ranks, earning the admiration of Emperor Diocletian.

However, he did not hesitate to confess his faith before the emperor, who had initiated a campaign to eradicate Christians. Diocletian became enraged and imprisoned George, subjecting him to a series of tortures. One night, while imprisoned, Saint George had a vision of Christ, who announced to him his death and entry into eternal life. Indeed, the next day, Diocletian ordered that his head be severed.

Wood-Carved Icon: Features

This particular wood-carved icon belongs to a special category of icons—works of art renowned for their exceptional detail in depicting the saints. It is a unique masterpiece created using the “pressing” technique, with the wood being limewood. It is crafted in respect to the Orthodox Christian tradition.

After the initial processing and sanding of the wood, the icon is painted with eco-friendly paint, followed by a pest control process to preserve the wood in excellent condition, ensuring it lasts for over 100 years.
