Description

Woodcarved Icon of the Holy Trinity

This beautiful woodcarved icon depicts the representation of the Holy Trinity, also known as the scene of Abraham’s Hospitality. According to the Orthodox Church, this icon is full of symbolic meaning, the most significant being the manifestation of God to Abraham in the form of three men. The Church Fathers saw this biblical event as a prefiguration of the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
Specifically, in Genesis, it is described that Abraham, while sitting near the oak of Mamre where he had pitched his tent, was visited by three unknown men. Abraham welcomed them warmly and offered to host them, preparing a rich feast in their honor. During their conversation, the strangers announced to Abraham that his wife, Sarah, despite her old age, would bear a child within the year, which indeed came to pass. It was only then that Abraham realized the visitors were angels sent by God.
