Woodcarved Icon of Saint Paraskevi

A woodcarved icon depicting Saint Paraskevi the Great Martyr. At the age of 20, she was orphaned and inherited a significant fortune, which she sold and distributed the money to the poor and the sick, while also teaching Christianity. Her actions became known to the Romans, and she was summoned for trial by the emperor, who asked her to renounce her faith, which, of course, she did not. She was immediately subjected to torture and then imprisoned, but an Angel of the Lord freed her from her chains. To kill her, they placed her in a large cauldron of boiling oil, but she remained alive.
Emperor Antoninus, unable to believe it, approached the cauldron, but his eyes were injured, and he became blind. According to tradition, Saint Paraskevi miraculously healed him (which is why she is considered the patron saint of the eyes), and Antoninus set her free. Years later, she was arrested again by the successor of Marcus Aurelius, who ordered the governors to torture and behead her.

Woodcarved Icon: Features

This particular woodcarved icon belongs to a special category of icons—works of art known for their exceptional detail in the depiction of saints. It is a unique masterpiece created using the “pressing” technique, and limewood has been used for its creation. The icon is crafted in accordance with Orthodox Christian tradition.
After the initial processing and sanding of the wood, it is painted with eco-friendly colors, followed by a pest control treatment to preserve the wood in perfect condition for over 100 years.
